PHOTOS: Brazilian ‘Model’ Ridiculed For Hurricane Sandy Shoot

A dramatic backdrop generally makes for a good fashion shoot, we’ll admit that much, but when said backdrop is the aftermath of an actual natural disaster? You might want to reconsider your choice of scenery.

Brazilian “glamour model” Nana Gouvêa is learning as much after she posted a series of photos to her Facebook page taken around Manhattan the day after Hurricane Sandy devastated much of the Eastern Seaboard. In the shots, she poses on top of cars crushed by falling trees, struts her stuff beside piles of strewn foliage, and cuts a striking figure in front of a blocked-off street.

The photos are taken on the Upper West Side, far away from surging storm waters, power outages, and cranes dangling 90 stories up, which makes them all the more irksome — or, depending on your vantage point, entertaining.

The Internet has, typically, capitalized on the situation with Nana Gouvêa in Disasters Facebook and Tumblr pages, featuring the model Photoshopped into scenes like the Tiananmen Square massacre, raging forest fires, and the sinking of the Titanic.

Our take? Clearly she and American Apparel are on the same page here. We think they’ve found their newest campaign model.

If the photos had a bit better composition, lighting and style, I would really like them.. But the come off as pretty cheesey.. I have NO problem with her using Sandy’s aftermath for a shoot though.. NOT AT AL!!

I have no issue at all with it, other than being way overdressed. Kind of fitting pics really, cuz I would totally rock her like a hurricane! lol

She is on the thick side

Seriously, if it looked at all like an artistic statement- and there are many you could make, like the temporary transitory nature of life, for one- that would be totally different. This just looks cheap, and frankly, she is not much of a model, is she?

Good gosh, could these shots scream louder wannabe-who’s-never-had-job-who-needs-shots-for-her-book-and-thinks-this-will-look-cool?! Honey, go back to Brazil and marry the rich guy your parents have picked out for you. You don’t deserve to live in New York, and you will never have a modeling career. Sorry if the truth is harsh, but there it is.

oh, so kind of you to call her a glamour model… in fact she is not a model at all. she’s just a girl who posed naked enough times to be noticed.

and i want to say that here, in brazil, we’re are very sorry for that stupidity.

oh, and she’s 37 by the way.

    cheers!

You ‘americans’ are such hypocrites. When Ashton Kutcher posted a photo of him surfing the flood in São Paulo, nobody said anything, but when nana gouvea post some pictures, NOOOOO, she’s making fun of the hurricane, NOOOO, had to be a brazilian, black monkey. That’s ridiculous. she may not be a real model, but whatever, get over it. everyone is making this a big deal, but it’s not. And Just beacuse she’s a brazilian, she has no right to live in New York ? thats ridiculous
