Naomi Looks Back On 25 Years, Acrostic Poem Style
The good people at Grazia got an exclusive interview with supermodel Naomi Campbell last night at a party thrown for her by Dolce and Gabbana. Naomi has been a diva for 25 years, and despite all her phone throwing and international jewel getting, when you’ve been at the top of your game for a quarter of a century, attention must be paid.
So, in their ultra creative way, Grazia took an adjective starting with each letter of Naomi’s name and asked her to tell them which moment of her career best exemplified that adjective. It’s sort of like the acrostic poems we did in our sixth grade language arts class (J is for joyous, U is for, um … ubiquitous?), but way more fabulous. We now bring you letters O and I.
Outrageously OTT? I did a shoot for Absolut Vodka and Versace with Kate Moss many years ago – we shot it in below zero temperatures and had to both be photographed in giant bottles of Absolut outdoors. It was freezing! When the shoot was over and we wanted to get warm back at our hotels we were told we would be sleeping in an igloo – that was probably one of the most outrageous shoots I have ever experienced – but fun at the same time!
Magical? The Versace catwalk show we did in 91 was amazing. Myself, Christy, Linda and Cindy are great friends and it was such a memorable and special time when we all walked down the catwalk together. We were working for the late Gianni Versace who was also a special friend and inspiration and he will always be remembered as one of the greatest designers in the world. Also taking 78 people to South Africa to share and meet the most amazing man, Nelson Mandela, in 98. This is something that I know everyone who came will always remember for the rest of their lives. (Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Karen Elson, Erin O’Connor, Santos Versace, Marcus Shahekburg, Alek Wek, Tom Munroe).
Hmm. Isn’t that trip the one where she got those blood diamonds? But we snark and digress — here’s to Naomi for 25 years of being fabulous, breaking barriers and being amazingly gorgeous while doing it all. For the letters N, A and M (which you surely don’t want to miss) click here.
