TIME WARP: Remember When Teenage Naomi Was On The Cosby Show?
Long before she was making wannabe models (and her fellow coaches) quiver in their stilettos on her reality show The Face, Naomi Campbell was gracing our small screens in a far less imposing role: in a three-episode run as Julia on The Cosby Show in 1988.
We were tipped off to this glorious bit of television history by the supermodel’s “25 Things You Don’t Know About Me” piece in Us Weekly today, and between this, her stint as a backup vocalist for Vanilla Ice, and her 2007 interview with recently deceased Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for British GQ, it was a tough call which lead to follow. This woman has had quite the career(s)!
But GQ did the job for us by wiping the very interview that we read this morning clean off of their website (shady much?) so Cosby it is! And who knows — maybe this role was where she picked up her taste for political commentary in the first place. After all, her character spends most of the segment below talking about women’s oppression (“Sexism has been around forever!” and “Why do people always have to say “man”? Why can’t it be people’s inhumanity to people?”) and, well, when you’re Naomi Campbell, people listen up.
Watch the adolescent, yet still impeccable, supermodel from the 2:40 mark in the video below:
