Calvin Klein Made Nick Gruber Take A Lie Detector Test In A Hotel Basement
What do you do when your name is Calvin Klein and you think your 21-year-old boyfriend is cheating on you? Take him to the basement of a moderately-priced chain hotel and hook him up to a polygraph, obviously.
Nick Gruber, Klein’s oh-so-charming former paramour, gave a tell-all interview to Page Six magazine about his relationship with the designer, a precursor to the salacious memoir he’s currently writing, tentatively titled “Obsession: My Life With Calvin Klein”. The piece has no shortage of LOL-worthy Gruber moments, from his nickname (“Romeo,” because “I get every girl, and even guys. Something about me draws them all in.”) to how his current boyfriend describes him (“A cross between Kim Kardashian and Honey Boo Boo”), but the really juicy part is the tale of how the pair finally broke up.
Gruber, you see, innocently invited a male friend to spend the night at Klein’s fancy schmancy West Village pad while the designer was away. He would have gotten away with it, if only the housekeeper hadn’t tattled. Here’s what happened next:
“‘[Calvin] picked me up in his car, drove me down to the Holiday Inn in Chelsea, and we went downstairs in the basement of the hotel,’ he says, furrowing his brow.
According to Gruber, another man was waiting there with a lie detector. He said he was an ex-detective, and presented a business card bearing the name ‘Dr. Love.’ Gruber, indignant that Klein was accusing him of cheating, says he agreed to be hooked up to the machine and interrogated for about two hours.
‘He made me take a lie-detector test,’ Gruber says in disbelief. ‘I passed it. And then, you know, things were much better. But I mean, what kind of partner would make you take a lie detector test? I was like, ‘Did you ever cheat on me, Calvin?’ I never cheated on him.’”
“Dr. Love”? Holiday Inn? This truly is
worse better than any soap opera we can think of.
