Nicolas Ghesquière Heading to Louis Vuitton [Updated]
It’s official: Nicolas Ghesquière will be stepping in as Creative Director at Louis Vuitton, Luxury Society are reporting.
The confirmation comes just days after Marc Jacobs celebrated his 16-year tenure with a deathly bang. Ghesquière has laid relatively low since being fired from Balenciaga (bar one tell-all interview and ensuing lawsuit) and was widely rumored to take up the reins at Vuitton following Jacobs’ widely rumored departure.
Guess that means the designer’s eponymous line won’t be happening anytime soon, but do you even care any more?
UPDATE: It’s not actually official. A a spokesperson for LVMH told WWD this morning, ‘nothing has been decided’. Ughhh.
UPDATE: It is official! Louis Vuitton confirmed the hire via Twitter this morning. “Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration,” Ghesquière said to WWD. “I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.” Ghesquière will show his first collection for Vuitton next March.
