Nicole Richie Will Mentor Designers On NBC’s Fashion Star
Nicole Richie is heading back to reality TV But don’t worry, the former Simple Life star will not be teaming up with frenemy Paris Hilton to tour middle America again. Instead, she’ll be mentoring contestants on the upcoming NBC reality show Fashion Star.
Richie will be a mentor, rather than a judge, to the competing designers — the viewers get to pick which contestant goes packing each week. We’ve also learned the designers’ works will be available for sale on the show’s website and that the challenges will involve less couture and more mass-market friendly designs.
McPherson explained the show’s goal back in April. “We’re not looking for someone to create a couture dress for the Oscars. We want someone who can design lingerie, swimwear, denim – accessible things that regular people wear.”
Richie is actually a great pick for Fashion Star -- she has reality TV experience (that she probably wishes she didn’t) and she is a really successful designer. Her lines House Of Harlow and Winter Kate have produced beautiful clothing, shoes and accessories. Also, like both Macpherson and Simpson’s fashion lines, Richie’s clothing retails for affordable princes (especially when compared to her celeb-turned-designer counterparts).
The air date has yet to be announced for Fashion Star, and while it seems like the last thing we need is another reality show, Richie’s participation is making us kind of excited! Macpherson, Simpson, and Richie will make quite the team since they all have reality show and design experience. We just hope they can find the main-stream, commercial Christian Siriano.
