Shoppers Think Nordstrom Is More Luxurious Than Bergdorf Goodman

Mirror, mirror on the wall, what store is the most luxurious of them all? Nordstrom, apparently.

According to WWD, New York-based research firm Luxury Institute surveyed 1,200 people who earn at least $150,000 annually; these shoppers ranked Nordstrom as the most luxurious department store among other high-end retailers. Nordstrom received a score of 8.41 out of 10, while Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman both received scores of 8.23. This is surprising!

What does being the fanciest store mean? Luxury Institute CEO Milton Pedraza explained:

“Retailers, especially in luxury, are selling experiences to customers more than they are selling any particular good. In the case of a retailer like Nordstrom, we see that a program of continuous improvement in the customer experience can lead to higher degrees of loyalty and improved financial performance.”

I shop quite often and I can honestly say that the customer experience at my Neiman Marcus pales in comparison to Nordstrom.  Whatever Nordstrom is doing, works.

This is SO confusing!! I wonder who these 1,200 people are! – http://www.thefashionlaw.org

This post is very misleading as that is not what the article said at all. It said that people who make more than $150,000 a year ranked it higher in store personnel, environment and satisfaction with overall experience. They did not rank it as “more luxurious” than BG. They just were more satisfied with Nordstrom experience. And as someone who shops both places, I could not agree more!
