PHOTOS: Here’s What Happened At The Obama Fundraiser At SJP’s House

For some people, last night’s Obama fundraiser hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker was a success. But for others, it was a big ol’ mess.

According to BuzzFeed Shift, several streets were shut down to make way for Barack and Michelle‘s ride, and protestors and fans lined up on the sidewalks to catch a glimpse. The protestors held signs opposing the fundraiser (tickets cost a whopping $40,000 per head), while fans cheered and waved. Neighbors were also pissed that their ‘hood was inaccessible and that they couldn’t go into their homes.

Fifty guests dropped by SJP’s crib, including Anna Wintour (who may or may not have had a hand in Parker’s house cleaning), Lisa Love, Georgina Chapman, Solange Knowles, Michael Kors, Chanel Iman, and Meryl Streep. Winner of the online contest Robin Hunt was also in attendance, and she brought her mom Elvita. Interestingly, Parker’s hubby Matthew Broderick was reportedly MIA because he was performing on his Broadway show Nice Work If You Can Get It. Yeah, we get that the show must go on, but how can you pass up an opportunity to hang with the Obamas in your own home?! That’s just crazy.

Anyway, guests hung out, did things, and listened to Barack‘s speech. We assume they also gazed lovingly at Michelle, because we sure would. The New York Daily News reports that Barack talked about the recovering economy, said that General Motors is doing well, and noted the differences between himself and Republican candidate Mitt Romney. We wonder if he mentioned this t-shirt of him Tebowing? WWD points out that the speech was “fairly standard”, but Parker’s son James Wilkie liked it and “clapped enthusiastically” when Obama mentioned GM.

The event drew to a close around 9 p.m., and the Obamas peaced out to another fundraiser at the Plaza Hotel.

    If Matthew misses a performance, the house has to refund ticket holders or give them tix to another show since he is billed above the show’s title.  That billing is an obligation to theater goers.    An arrangement like that costs the production several thousand dollars.  He would have had to negotiate a night off in his contract prior to the start of the show so that the show would not perform that night and perform another night in its place.  The business of theater is very complex.  The only time that an absense is excusable is when the actor is ill.

    That is DISGUSTING! I’d rather have a tooth pulled than have to be around him. UNLESS of course he’d let me griil him on his past, but he’d only lie anyways, so that would just be a waste of time.

    This is truly disgusting. Many people don’t make $40,000 a year, but this group of elitist 1% ers gets to stop traffic and fawn all over the obamas.  Just goes to show how out of touch obama really is with the average person in the US.
    Obama proclaimed: We’re going to have to fight for it because the American people are tired, they’ve gone through a very tough economy. They’re still having a tough time. And that’s why this election is going to be close,” Obama said.
    The American people are tired. They are hurting. They can’t afford $40,000 a plate for dinner.
    David Axelrod made the remark that when it comes to the economy Mitt Romney lives on different world from Barack Obama. There’s no question that’s true. While Romney lives on Planet Earth, Obama lives on Planet Hollywood.
    They sure aren’t hurting on Planet Hollywood.

    I really don’t think we should be so resentful of people who have the means to pay $40K for a fundraiser.  These people have made the most of their opportunities and in most cases, have worked very hard for the money.

    what we need to look at is campaign reform that prohibits these people from donating whatever amount they want to the candidate of their choice.  Therefore, these dumb dinner formats are what are necessary.  It is not the candidate’s fault or the celebrity. 

    Yes, we are all hurting and cannot afford this luxurious lifestyle. But if I could, I would…simple…
