Olivia Palermo Won’t Cover Red Carpets Because She’s More Into Street Style
Love her or hate her, Olivia Palermo has dazzling taste. So when we saw the former reality television star turned stylist turned model turned brand consultant turned fashion world fixture sitting front row at the Tibi show on Saturday, we felt the burning desire to pick her brain about how fashion week is treating her so far.
Turns out, pretty well! Palermo told us that she’s going to tons of shows (which is true — we’ve seen her everywhere) and that she’s not super gung ho about covering this season’s award shows.
So what are you looking for when you come to the tents?
I look for myself. I look for my website, and I look for editorial for photoshoots that I do and style. It’s kind of a broad range, so I check out a lot of diverse designers.
Do you have a favorite so far, or are you not gonna call it until the week is over?
I’m not gonna call that until the week is over. Obviously being in the Tibi family is nice. I’m obsessed with everything that she does. Peter Som is always one of my favorites. And Mischa who designs for Noonoo, the new label, and she’s fantastic. And she’s definitely brought her British aesthetic to clothing in New York which is nice. I’m a big supporter of British fashion.
Do you think there will be any British designers represented at the Grammys or the Oscars? Are you expecting anything in particular for those red carpets?
I haven’t really concentrated on them. I don’t think our website will cover them, because for me it’s more about kind of like the real girl, someone who’s in fashion, not necessarily such a who’s a celebrity. I kind of like to have everyone’s own personal style take on it and girls from all around the world, because I think those are the cooler girls. But I’m sure you’ll see some great stuff. I’m sure you’ll see a few pieces that are on the runways now, but they’ll most likely be pieces that the design houses have created specifically for the occasion.
