Unknown Designer Olivier Rousteing To Replace Decarnin At Balmain?

A little more than two weeks after Christophe Decarnin was released from his contract at Balmain, rumors of his successor are swirling. Relative unknown — and “key deputy” of Decarnin — Olivier Rousteing is said to be taking over the position of creative director.

While the contract has yet to be finalized, sources have told WWD that Rousteing’s appointment will likely be announced next week. At the time that Decarnin and Balmain parted ways (it is still unclear whether Decarnin left or was forced out of the company), it was believed the house would indeed find a successor from within their own ranks. Cathy Horyn suggested stylist Melanie Ward would be a top contender, but Rousteing seems to have snagged the coveted post.

Little is known about the French designer, who is described as “a young and promising creative dynamo.” It is believed Rousteing came to Balmain in 2009 after six years at Roberto Cavalli. We joked that Balmain-obsessed Kanye should take over for Decarnin, but Rousteing does seem a bit more qualified.

We’re still waiting on official confirmation, but we’ll be sure to update when we get it!
