PHOTOS: 6 Best Dressed Celebs On The Oscar Red Carpet
If you read our liveblog, you know we weren’t exactly blown away by the sartorial showing on Sunday night’s red carpet. The Oscars aren’t exactly known for being an outré affair, but we were hoping for a little more pizazz and pow from tonight’s honorees. That said, there were some standouts, like Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture and nominee Jennifer Lawrence‘s modern and minimalist red dress. And while we tried to stick to five, 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld and 52-year-old Annette Bening tied for having the hands down most stunningly age appropriate ensembles.
Take a look — do you agree with our picks?
In a sea of pretty, if seriously snoozeworthy gowns, Cate Blanchett's pale purple number by Givenchy Couture was a veritable work of art.
Expect a post on this later, but Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa owned the awards shows this year -- and Jennifer Lawrence's custom creation is no exception. This is a red dress done right.
Embracing one of Sunday night's biggest trends, Mila Kunis walked the Oscar red carpet in a lace-y lilac design by Elie Saab. While the color initially felt like a bit of a tough sell, the detailing and impeccable styling made this one a clear winner.
Both Halle Berry and Marchesa are already known for hitting red carpet home runs on the regular, but when you put the two together, you get a slam dunk. Berry's frothy champagne number looked delightful and the detailing on the train was exceptional. Also, we're digging the way her hair and the crinoline on the gown are kind of working in tandem.
Hailee Steinfeld's ballerina pink, princess gown she co-designed with Marchesa's Georgina Chapman was exactly the right dress for a 14-year-old Oscar nominee: it was pretty, perfectly age appropriate, and ideally accessorized. This look is, quite literally, what dreams are made of.
We pondered using this space to list all the reasons we love Annette Bening, but realized we'd run out of room pretty quickly. Instead, we'll leave it at this: Bening looked impossibly and impeccably stunning in her intricately beaded gunmetal gown. And how hot of a power couple are her and Warren Beatty? Swoon.
