If you read our liveblog, you know we weren’t exactly blown away by the sartorial showing on Sunday night’s red carpet. The Oscars aren’t exactly known for being an outré affair, but we were hoping for a little more pizazz and pow from tonight’s honorees. That said, there were some standouts, like Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture and nominee Jennifer Lawrence‘s modern and minimalist red dress. And while we tried to stick to five, 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld and 52-year-old Annette Bening tied for having the hands down most stunningly age appropriate ensembles.
Agreed. A work of art. And who better than Cate Blanchett to carry it? Best of the night.

You’re kidding about Cate B’s dress right? I mean….you have to be joking.

Um, I think you accidentally swapped your best-dressed and worst-dressed lists.

Cate Blanchett’s dress looked exactly right when she was up onstage. I was surprised at how well it worked. Well chosen.
Jennifer Lawrence’s red dress was quite plain, I thought. Not really Oscar worthy.
Mila Kunis is beautiful but when I saw the dress, the first thought I had was of Lil Kim’s unfortunate pasty. I thought the color and placement of the lace on Mila’s dress was sadly too close to the memory of Lil Kim (though Lil Kim’s wig was kind of awesome).
