Is A Town In Louisiana Really Going To Ban…Pajamas?

A commissioner in Louisiana wants to ban pajamas. Seriously.

According to the Shreveport Times:

Caddo Parish District 3 Commission Michael Williams said it was an incident at a local Walmart that offended him and some elderly customers that spurred him to push for an ordinance that would prohibit wearing pajama pants in public.

“I saw a group of young men wearing pajama pants and house shoes,” he said. “At the part where there should have been underwear,” his private parts were showing through the fabric.

Williams defines pajamas as “a garment sold in the sleepwear section of department stores”, and he wants those caught in violation of this proposed law to do community service. Not only would such a ban be difficult to enforce, it would also be unconstitutional. The Acadiana Advertiser reports that the ACLU sent a letter to Williams condemning the proposal:

“To ban the wearing of pajamas, like any other form of attire, would violate a liberty interest guaranteed under the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The government must demonstrate a rational basis for its ban – and Caddo Parish’s has no legitimate rational basis for regulating the attire of its residents.”

Looking sloppy in public is your own prerogative, damnit! Besides, if it’s good enough for Ryan…

He looks good to me.  Better than seeing females with clothes too small and everything hanging out.  They would be better off in pj’s.

if his “privates parts” were showing through, why wasn’t he charged with obscenity or something to that effect?

I see young people around here going into the local Walmart and a few other places in their PJ’s and slippers and wonder what they expect when I laugh out loud… This one girl got all indignant at my amusement and asked me what I was looking at so I told her that was what I was trying to figure out, then she gives me the usual “if you don’t like it don’t look” and I say “honestly I try not to but it’s like trying to not look at a circus clown, if you dress like that knowing you are attracting attention and then get mad because you get that attention you need to get a clue.”  They are called sleepwear for a reason and I can only guess what disgusting stuff gets soaked up by those soft soles and tracked into their homes- this is as disgusting as dirty bare feet.  I say businesses of all kinds need to start posting dress codes. Until that happens I reserve the right to point and laugh.  This ‘being proud of being a “redneck”‘ B.S. is wearing thin.
