CORRECTIONS: Patricia Field Says She Never Called David Cameron Fat

Superstar stylist Patricia Field got in hot water last week after a number of publications reported that she’d called British Prime Minister David Cameron fat. Field has since set the record straight, saying the whole affair was a gross misunderstanding.

Our friends at The Cut talked to Field at at party for the Fashion Institute of Technology‘s Couture Council and asked the stylist about her remarks, and she explained that while she did say he looked like he’d put on a few pounds, she didn’t call him a fat mess who’d “globbed” up 40 or 50 extra pounds. It turns out Field was consulting on a project for a fabric softener, and a journalist who interviewed her about that held up pictures of a few prominent Britons and asked her to respond. She says this is how the conversation went:

He was always sort of a good-looking guy, whether I agree with him politically – I have enough problems in America with politics, I don’t even know what’s going on — so I said, “Well, it looks like he put some weight on. He used to be more attractive. When I first saw him, I thought, that’s a good looking man.” Well, they went nuts over there in England. They said I said that he globs food and he’s fat. You know, I don’t use words like that. Anyway, it probably died down because they’ve got bigger problems.

Like that whole riot situation? Yeah. Way bigger.
