Petra Nemcova Got Her MBA, Is Now Officially ‘A Nerd’
We pondered leading this post off with a joke about models and smarts, but then we decided it was time for that overused trope to be put to bed. Instead, we’re going to just tell you that supermodel and tsunami-survivor Petra Nemcova has returned from a self-imposed and 18-month long hiatus. (Fact: our image subscriptions tell us she wasn’t photographed at a public event between December 2008 and May of 2010.) So, where was she? Getting an MBA, of course.
According to The Cut, Nemcova has just earned an MBA at London Business School.
“I escaped, became a nerd for a few years,” Nemcova said. Her course consisted of practical training with executives from different companies, like banks and Nokia, studying things like strategic decision making, marketing, and corporate governance. The goal, Nemcova explained, was to augment her skills as the leader of her foundation, the Happy Hearts Fund, to improve structuring, and to have more tools to work with.
Nemcova’s degree and business-savvy is worth lauding on its own, but after watching Sara Ziff’s backstage interviews this week, we realize it’s even more laudable as a positive example in an industry that so often encourages girls as young as 14 or 15 to drop out of school in the hopes of furthering their career.
