Philip Treacy Doesn’t ‘Give A F*ck About Bloggers’

For better or for worse, the curly-cued Philip Treacy creation worn by Princess Beatrice on Kate Middleton’s wedding day put the 22-year-old royal squarely on the sartorial map. From first glimpse, it set tongues wagging and bloggers typing — a search for “Princess Beatrice Hat” yields 1,860,000 results on Google — but there’s one person who couldn’t be less interested in the general opinion: Mr. Treacy himself.

In an interview with The Guardian in honor of an exhibition of the milliner’s creations currently on display at the Tate Liverpool museum, Treacy calls all the (largely negative) commentary on the hat a bunch of hogwash.

Were you hurt by the rude things said about the hat you designed for Princess Beatrice at the royal wedding (turkey twizzler, lavatory seat, pretzel)?

I felt hurt for her. She is only 22 and there was a little bit of bullying going on. I didn’t give a fuck about 140,000 bloggers. In the future, we’ll look back and think she looked wild…Princess Beatrice is Queen Victoria’s great, great, great, great granddaughter and looks like Queen Victoria. I thought of her as a beautiful, exotic, Victorian doll. I thought I was making a hat with a bow on it.

We didn’t hate the hat — it was just very odd looking — so we appreciate Treacy going to bat for Beatrice. But in the future, we’d appreciate it if he lay off the bloggers. We’re not all that bad.

Philip Treacy: ‘I like hats that make the heart beat faster’ [The Guardian]

Treacy’s hat was horrid, it looked like a womans uterus & fallopian tubes, intertwined with a bow.. If Philip Treacy  is not concerned about bloggers and such, he’s not thinking with his ‘hat’ on straight. In this day and age, social networking can make or break you in no time.

I love hats, but I’d not give one of Treacy’s a second glance. Who would want to parade around looking like the village fool? As for princess Beatrice only being 22 as an excuse for her hat style naivity? Any woman of 22 should have some sense of style. If she doesn’t, she never will.

oh nonsense, it was a fascinator and meant to amuse.

the princess sold it for charity on ebay for a good sum

beginning to absolutely loathe mean sites and judgments

    time to learn some manners

we’re all so capable of making heinous choices and to read about it mockingly in papers and blogs has become sport, a very cruel sport

just wrote about the mockery done to the very great and generous Johnny Weir

    it must end

who is qualified to judge that is so flawless

Treacy doesn’t give a hoot about bloggers he was around way before and will still be around even if all the numptys in the world got together and tried to trash him. His hats are known for being eccentric and 1 hat does not break his career. Bloggers seem to think to highly of their importance, here’s a little rule: Don’t believe the hype or your own press release!

I thought the hat looked fun.
