Phillip Lim Turns To Tokyo For Inspiration
3.1 designer Phillip Lim hosted a cocktail party at his flagship store in the neighborhood of Aoyama on Friday evening. The party also doubled as a means to cast the remaining models for his upcoming worldwide ad campaign/short film, featuring model and actress Kiko Mizuhara.
WWD reports that Lim referenced the motorcycle-stylings of the new collection:
“I found a lot of inspiration [for fall] in café racers and nouveau café racers… And Japan has a lot of subculture, so we decided to find subculture pockets in Tokyo to use in the filming.”
And on the struggles of staying relevant:
“We don’t live in the past, we live in the present. But our inspiration comes from the past, so we have to find a way to make that current.”
The famed designer divulged that shooting the campaign in the city that inspired the collection was a way for he and his team to maintain authenticity of the collection, while still keeping with Lim’s modern edge.
