PHOTOS: Our Favorite (Most Far-Out) Vivienne Westwood Looks
Punk-glam designer Vivienne Westwood is the target of Tim Blanks’ journalistic arsenal for the latest issue of Interview, and as one might expect, she still packs a good punch. The 71-year-old who once ruled the punk scene with her boutique in New York (think Andy Warhol, et al) seems more comfortable in her skin than ever, discussing her nude photographic portraits shot by Juergen Teller and waxing poetic about her passionate interest in climate change. We learned that one of her favorite books is Cormac McCarthy’s The Road (yeesh) and that she “doesn’t think” she’s vain, and if she walked into a room with Pamela Anderson, she’s “going to be delighted” and no longer has to be “the center of attraction,” although she “often is.”
Says Westwood: “I’ll tell you one thing—maybe you can call this vain or not—but I look in the mirror in the morning, I put my makeup on, and I think about how old I’m getting, and then I forget about it and that’s that. I’m just quite happy and satisfied with myself. Actually, I think I look my best.”
More power to her! In honor of her “shrug the haters” attitude, we’ve compiled a slideshow of some of the most out-there (and awesome) designs from her Fall/Winter 2012 collection, shown at Paris Fashion Week.
