PHOTOS: Best And Worst Looks From The Pre-Grammy Awards Gala

The minds behind this year’s Grammy Awards Show are doing their best to make sure that what has long been considered the wildest red carpet ride of awards show season is considerably toned down this year; they issued a wardrobe advisory earlier this week specifically banning “thong-type costumes” and excessively revealing outfits.

If the subdued looks that hit the red carpet at the Pre-Grammy Gala are any indication, they don’t have much to worry about. Katy Perry was all pearl-encrusted, old Hollywood glam, but isn’t it time we see something a little different from her? Jennifer Hudson‘s figure looked slamming, but the pretty plum-colored lips and strappy black sandals were merely faintly interesting bookends to a boring, Sandra Dee-inspired peach cocktail dress.

Carly Rae Jepsen saved the day in a fitted red leather frock with rows of gold stud detailing at the hem. We have mixed feelings about the length though — should she have gone shorter? And the heavy black shoes and clutch kind of weigh it down unnecessarily.
