Mario Sorrenti Didn’t Want His Naked Pirelli Calendar To Be Sexy
Fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti claims he didn’t want his 2012 Pirelli calendar to be overtly sexy, but we think the photos he took for it are probably going to fit that description to a tee.
Sorreti told Women’s Wear Daily that the calendar, which got shot on a farm in Corsica, was originally going to be an in-your-face sort of explosion of naked women’s bodies — after all, that’s normally what the Pirelli calendar is. But Sorrenti decided somewhere along the way that even though his models (including Kate Moss, Malgosia Bela, Isabeli Fontana and actresses Rinko Kikuchi and Milla Jovovich, among others) would be naked, they didn’t need to be overtly sexualized.
“I didn’t want them to be posing and arching and like sticking their boobs in my face or anything like that. I thought that’s what I wanted, that it would give the most immediate impact, but then I realized that wasn’t important….I was trying to just really focus on them and the environment and let that blossom together somehow.”
This from a man best known for his naked pictures of, well, every major supermodel in the business. However sexily (or unsexily) the final product of that blossoming turned out will be revealed this morning, when Sorrenti unveils his calendar to the press in New York City. Take a look at some of the preview images below — you’ll find a bigger collection of them here – and tell us if you think they’re sexy or not.
