PHOTOS: Riding In Cars With Prada

When it came down the runway, we didn’t fully appreciate Prada‘s 1950′s automobile-inspired spring collection. But now that we’ve seen the ad campaign, we’re starting to get the point.

And that’s because the clothes are not only beautiful, but they pay pretty literal homage to one of the most stylistically iconic periods of American history — and they look damn good in these ads, which we expect will start popping up in magazines any minute now. The campaign was shot by photographer Steven Meisel and stars a cast of models dressed and coiffed like what we imagine June Cleaver would have looked like if she’d had an edge and maybe smoked cigarettes at gas stations, without regard for those signs that say not to.

Take a look at the campaign below and tell us what you think in the comments.

I LOVE Prada!!  What Miuccia does every season is transcend reality and designs what She wants!  She is the Thinking Woman’s Designer much in the same vein as Rei Kawakubo!  I wouldn’t even consider her a designer more of an Artist in all meanings of the word!!!  I just wish I could live in her Zany Fantastical World for a Millisecond
