PHOTOS: Prince Covers V Magazine, Still Lives In An Alternate Galaxy
While a Prince concert is proof enough of the legend’s vitality, V Magazine’s August cover is yet another reminder that in his infamous vault that holds a wealth of unreleased work, Prince is keeping the ancient secrets of the fountain of youth.
The 55-year-old troubadour, who was captured in black-and-white by Inez & Vinoodh, looks as if he was transplanted from the ’70s sporting an afro, a smoky cat eye, and his signature purse, all while placing an evil-eye-ring clad hand over his heart. Upholding his sartorial stature, he wears a bespoke shiny, textured patchwork high-necked jacket with a silky turtleneck.
In the accompanying profile titled “The Purple Reign of a Musical Genius,” Prince reminds us that he indeed is superhuman and lives in a different galaxy all together, one that even those in his inner circle hardly ever come in contact with. Perhaps this is why he laughs in the face of a smartphone.
When asked whether or not he has an iPhone, he snapped back, “Are you serious? Hell, no.” and then proceeded to mimick a high-voiced woman. “Where is my phone? Can you call my phone? Oh, I can’t find it.” *as we pull at our Peter Pan collar*
As for his alternate universe, he explained:
“This organization is different than most, in the sense that we don’t take directions from the outside world. It’s like a galaxy. The sun is in the center giving off energy, and everything revolves around it…Nobody really talks to me. Nobody talks to me a lot.”
Perhaps more daring than attempting to pervade Prince’s cosmos would be asking him his favorite song. “Which one of your children do you like the best?” he posed. “Music comes from the same source. It’s all the same thing.” Considering we couldn’t even answer that question at gunpoint, we totally feel him.
Lastly, in the age of music where Kim Kardashian — a noted foe of Prince — can make a pop record, he has much reason to believe he is of a caliber all his own. He explained:
“These people are not being satisfied elsewhere by musicians, you feel what I’m saying? It’s no disrespect to anyone else, because we’re not checking for them. But we don’t lip synch. We ain’t got time for it.”
But really, ain’t nobody got time for that, Mariah…..
