Phillip Treacy Doesn’t Care If You Didn’t Like Princess Beatrice’s Hat

British milliner Phillip Treacy, who created the hat Princess Beatrice of York wore to the Royal Wedding, is standing by his work even in the face of countless comments (and Internet jokes!) that that hat was just not cool.

Since last Friday, Princess Beatrice’s hat, a camel-colored wreath topped with an intricate bow, has gotten almost as much attention as the Sarah Burton-designed wedding dress that Kate Middleton Duchess Catherine wore to her wedding — it even has it’s own spoof Tumblr. But Treacy, who’s been making hats for Princess Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie for years, told Hollywood Life he didn’t even ask them what they wanted to wear on their heads on Kate’s big day. He just designed and they wore what he created.

“No, they didn’t tell me [what they wanted] because I’ve known them for a long time and I wanted them to look gorgeous and beautiful. They trusted me to make them. Gorgeous and beautiful can be open to interpretation … I thought they looked gorgeous and beautiful. But no one is crying if anyone didn’t.”

We’re certainly not crying, either way! The hat has probably been one of the most entertaining pieces of headgear we’ve ever seen. Seriously, when was the last time a hat got this much attention? And when you think about it, some of the hats and fascinators on display at the wedding were visually more offensive than this one. Don’t believe us? Google “Tara Palmer-Tomkinson hat” and tell us that wasn’t absolutely hideous.

In the meantime, we have to know:

Ok, I must confess the hats were part of the wedding extraganzza, and that’s just FINE! because I mean, it’s like a trdition to wear Philip Treacy hats, so what’s the problem?
And the hat is more then just funny, is full of craftmanship, think about it… That hat is almost standing by its own, on the princess head fighting against gravity law… That is something important to admire, don’t you think?

100% True… now seems like the only one allowed to do outrageous things “fancy” is GaGa… Ugh!
