Got A Spare £3,000? You Could Own Princess Diana’s Silk Escada Tie
So you’re not into dresses but still want to make a monstrously expensive new addition to your wardrobe this season?
Behold this £3,000 silk Escada tie owned and worn by the late Princess Diana. If it appeals, you’ve got just under a week left to scrounge up the money before it goes under the hammer of Reeman Dansie auctioneers later this month.
The tie was worn by the late princess with a matching Escada suit when she visited her newborn nephew, Louis Spencer, Viscout Althorp, at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London in 1994. A year later she gifted the tie to her friend’s daughters so their dad could wear it to a job interview. The tie comes with the gold paper she wrapped it in, the monogrammed note she included with it, and the red ribbon she tied it with — if you’re really into Princess Di memorabilia.
“All this for only £3,000,” you say? “The equivalent of $4,700? There must be a catch!”
Well, there could be. Those sly folk at Reeman Dansie have scheduled the hammer to fall right in the midst of the excitement over the Diana biopic starring Naomi Watts. With the film due out in September there’s a good chance the tie could sell for thousands more than expected. Either that or the guy who shelled out £240,000 for the Victor Edelstein dress — the one Di wore dancing with John Travolta — might show up in search of another surprise for his wife.
At least you’ll never grow out of it?
