WWD Adds Drama To The Rachel Zoe-Taylor Jacobson Rift

UPDATE, 8.03.2010: The Rachel Zoe Project made its much awaited return to our television screens tonight, and with it came the answer to one of the industry’s most pressing questions: what exactly happened between Rachel Zoe and Taylor Jacobson, the tow-headed styling assistant with a salty attitude. We’re huge Rachel Zoe Project fans. Rachel, the showroom, the celebrities, Rodger, Brad — we love them all. One personality we were sad to see leave the show was our favorite Wayfarer-wearing assistant, Taylor Jacobson, who provided audiences with a dry sense of humor and an unapologetically in-your-face attitude.
Truth be told, we definitely did see a shift in Taylor’s work ethic once Brad stepped in as Rachel’s new assistant. But who could blame her? After working with Rachel for four years, something had to give. And despite a title change, the responsibilities didn’t come a-knocking the way she had wanted. Taylor got frustrated. Rachel got annoyed. And Brad got eager.
When Taylor announced she’d be leaving Zoe, rumors abounded: Was there a fight? Were clothes stolen? Was Rachel telling brands not to work with Taylor? Finally, Zoe decided to set the record straight.
“That was so real that I cannot even tell you how real that actually was,” said Zoe about Taylor’s downward spiral. “It was like, I hired Brad, this little angel, and then Taylor just went in for the kill. And I, like, did not see that coming. I always knew what she was capable of, but who knew that was going to happen with the camera? …I don’t care what she does. How’s that? How’s that for an answer?”
WWD sums up the Taylor/Rachel/Brad relationship in equally dramatic prose:
Taylor Jacobson is Zoe’s now former assistant, who was constantly feuding with Brad, Zoe’s other assistant. On the show, Tay is cast as the (constantly complaining) workhorse; Brad, the token bow tie-wearing gay and Rach’s obvious favorite. At the end of season two, Rach took Brad to Paris, leaving Tay behind to style celebrities in Los Angeles and curse the days Rach and Brad were born. Upon their return, she threatened to quit, and once the season wrapped, word got out that Tay had been terminated over lost or stolen clothes, as Page Six reported.
Why so serious? From our memory of the episodes, there was no “going in for the kill” to be had. Was Taylor rough on Brad? Yes — as she should have been given the high pressure nature of her job and Rachel’s whirlwind work ethic. Was Brad taken to Paris over Taylor? If we remember correctly, Taylor volunteered to stay back, uninterested in stirring the pot that was an already dramatic work situation. We sense WWD upped the ante on this one, and look forward to seeing what really happened when The Rachel Zoe Project premieres its 3rd season on August 3rd.
