Raf Simons Wants You To ‘Smell The Dior Woman From Round The Corner’
Raf Simons‘ next steps at the helm of Dior will be creating a concrete vision of the Dior woman and signature traits that are instantly recognizable, as well as turning the brand into something that people can wear every day, he said in an interview.
Simons opened up to Vogue‘s Alexandra Shulman about how his vision for the brand is a complete departure from John Galliano‘s, saying that Galliano’s was too dramatic and not what Christian Dior himself would have wanted:
“Dior’s ultimate obsession is that he wanted [the public] to wear it. I want them to wear it on the street. If it doesn’t relate to the outside, then it would be very theatrical for me.”
He also said that he looks to Chanel as a model for creating that concise vision of the Dior woman:
“The Chanel woman? I don’t even need to see, I smell her from round the corner, but I don’t recognise the Dior woman. I want to work on that fast. Chanel has the deux-pièces with the pockets, or the bouclé, but what is it for Dior nowadays? I can’t say.”
We think that if anyone’s up for the task, it’s Simons — he’s done an outstanding job at the house so far. And after several red carpet appearances in Raf’s Dior, we think Marion Cotillard could be an ideal muse for him!
