In Which We Wish A Very Happy Birthday To Ralph Lauren

Seventy two years ago today, a little boy named Ralph Lifshitz was born in the Bronx. Today, the man that little boy grew up to be is known as Ralph Lauren, and he’s arguably the single most important American in fashion.

And that’s not just because his various companies have built him a net worth of over $6 billion, or because he’s and endlessly creative and talented designer — or even because his clothes run the gamut from affordable and easy to wear to extremely pricey and luxurious. It’s because his image goes beyond America — he’s known and beloved everywhere. People all over the globe buy his wares like hotcakes, from the red-carpet ready dresses worn by women like Michelle Obama to the couches and bedding he makes for homes all over the world.

Lauren’s vision and his goods have always sought to offer the world the best version of our nation possible: Clean, useful, sporty, mindful of history and yet always looking toward the future. It’s why the words “Ralph Lauren” are almost as American as baseball and apple pie. As far as we’re concerned, he’s one of the best cheerleaders our country has.

So happy birthday, Ralph — and may many more follow. We need all the support we can get.

Editor’s Note: There may be Denim & Supply ads carpeting this site, but this message came straight from our fashion-loving hearts. For proof, check out our past birthday messages to Karl, Anna Dello Russo, and Women’s Wear Daily, among others.
