Since the Oscars are next Sunday, we didn’t expect major celebs to make appearances on the red carpet last night or designers to lend out their very best gowns to the stars. Well, we were totally right.
We only knew a handful of celebs at the Streamy Awards in Hollywood, like Jeanne Mai and Eliza Dushku, so that probably explained the lack of jaw-dropping dresses and glamour. Over in London, Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska brought some star power to the screening of Stoker. But the high neckline on Kidman’s L’Wren Scott dress looked like it was choking her, and Wasikowska’s dark Christopher Kane frock paired with black tights and matching shoes made her look like a blob of nothing when photographed on the red carpet.
Fortunately, the Writers Guild Awards, which was held on both coasts in Los Angeles and New York, managed to draw out the likes of Amy Poehler, Lena Dunham, and Jessica Chastain. Unfortunately, they looked nothing short of drab. Poehler failed to excite in a ruched plum number with sheer sleeves paired with inexplicable garnet shoes, while Chastain just looked downright boring in a nude Christian Dior number. Don’t get us wrong, we normally love all things Dior and Chastain, but the color of the dress washed out the actress’ skin. Last but not least, Dunham tried to dig herself out of the red carpet rut in a printed Reed Krakoff dress with an asymmetrical hem. We thought this was one of Dunham’s better red carpet looks, but she looks like she’s trying just a bit too hard. Perhaps the Oscars will be better.
See all those looks, plus so much more, in the gallery below:
I dont think the color was wrong for Chastain so much as the cut. Maybe its the camera angle but it looks a little high school prom for my taste. However, I adored Felicia Day’s dress. So delightfully 20s!

I read some other post that hated Lena Dunham’s dress. I don’t hate it, she just manages to not choose dresses that flatter her. Women used to want smooth skin like hers, that didn’t show their collar bones…now, women want more masculine firm looking physiques, replete with bony chests and muscly arms.
I think Lena needs to go maybe a little more retro and grow her hair a teenie bit…maybe an early ’60′s pinup look would work for her…?

Oh and what the heck are the Streamy Awards? A purple dress and red shoes are a big NO in my book…

Woah, what the hell happened to Lisa Lampanelli!?

Those shoes don’t look that red…they look reddish-purple in the photo…

Thank you Kate Walsh for dressing like a grown-up….Julie, come on – you’ve been great this year and now this 1997 spaghetti strap throwback…tear. It looked like Forever 21 sponsored this event I haven’t seen so much satin and ill-placed ruffles since our 8th grade formal.
