For somewhat obvious reasons we tend to favor the East Coast when it comes to debates over NYC vs. California style. But last night, Hollywood turned it out for a slew of glitzy events, trouncing their coat-clad counterparts.
At the premiere of Deadfall (not to be confused with the rather similar-sounding Skyfall), Kate Mara pulled together a sophisticated look in chartreuse Jason Wu. Co-star Olivia Wilde, meanwhile, opted for a demure L’Wren Scott cardigan paired with a matching beaded pencil skirt.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and InStyle party to kick off Golden Globes season drew Cali’s real trump card of the evening: Diane Kruger. The perennially well-dressed actress chose a crop top and full skirt by Rochas paired with black and white Chanel booties, making for a far better executed look than her last ribcage-baring ensemble. And while we’re not usually huge fans of Lea Michele‘s red carpet choices, her beige, slit-up-to-there Valentino gown hit all the right notes.

Well to say the West Coast “trounced” East Coast is quite lopsided in many ways. There are 20 photos from the WC and 11 from the EC. Their climates are extremely different this time of year. The EC is much colder so I would absolutely expect them to be in coats and more covered up; WC, of course, more bare. In fact, some of the WC photo outfits look appropriate for EC (like O Wilde looks like she’s in a sweater set). In looking at some WC photos, I thought many of them were ho-hum. At least in the handful of EC photos you showed, they are rockin’ some current trends (a la fake fur).
