Dutch Magazine Rescinds Apology For Calling Rihanna Racist Slur
In news that makes our stomachs turn, the publisher of Dutch magazine Jackie has released a statement defending an article in which they referred to Rihanna as a “n*ggabitch”.
“There’s nothing to rectify, because there is nothing wrong with that production,” Yves Gijrath told Villamedia, according to a Google translated version of the statement.
[T]here is nothing wrong in the magazine. [Hoeke] presented it as a joke, but it most certainly was not a joke. It was an interpretation [of a fashion style]. [...] She should have said: “we did not realize this interpretation is such a touchy subject. We never meant any harm and offer our sincere and upright apologies.” But because of all the fuss, Eva started to wiggle in all directions, and therefore we have come to the conclusion her credibility has been undermined.
He also added that a correction would not appear in the next issue and argued that Jackie could not be considered a racist magazine as it was “created by a multicultural group of people.”
In our last post, we thought we were happy to see Hoeke go. It turns out she may have been the only person at Jackie with a shred — and a very small one, at that — of decency.
