WATCH: Republican Party Mocks Obama Campaign Fashion Show As ‘Ritzy’

We should have expected that not everyone would be a fan of President Barack Obama‘s fashiony fundraiser, Runway to Win. On Tuesday, the Republican National Convention released a video characterizing the fashion show and resulting product line, organized by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, as an elitist spectacle that recession-stricken Americans can’t afford to participate in.

The YouTube video features a few of the items that designers produced for the collaboration, including a $40 set of nail polishes from Richard Blanch, a $75 Tory Burch tote bag and two $95 scarves from Monique Pean and Thakoon. “Watching the Obama campaign host a ritzy NYC fashion show while 12 million Americans remain out of work?” the video asks. “Priceless.”

The president has been roundly attacked for being too highbrow to actually be in touch with working class Americans (dude went to Harvard, after all), but lately the immensely wealhy GOP front runner Mitt Romney has been getting slammed for his inability to connect with people who have low incomes. A few weeks ago, he said the $374,000 he earned from public speaking appearances in 2011 as “not very much.” What better opportunity to make Obama look like just as much of an elitist snob than to mock him for hocking well-priced pieces of fashion (all of the Runway to Win items retail for $95 or less) than to make fun of his “ritzy” runway show in New York City?

Political attack ads might not be very chic, but they’re probably going to start getting fashionable and popular real quick. Watch the RNC’s first volley below.

Fashion Week is held in the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, to showcase the duds for the 1% trophy wives and brats to wear. Tell me again why Tea Party is against fashion hoity toity?

Who can afford designer clothing after what Obama has done to this country???  Wake up Designers!

  • BHO12

Obama wasn’t the one that made the fashion show happen.. It was Anna and Scarlett along with other designers.. so the blame can’t be put on him for this.

Ugh, I see both sides… Nothing about fashion screams affordable or average-income buyer but at the same time I still think it’s OK to use fashion as a means to raise money (for any cause).

after what obama has done???? please….republicans need to take responsibility for the mess bush handed obama. but in answer to your question, romney can afford it. he’s willing to make $10,000 bets, not very concerned about the poor, and seems to think that $374,000 is not much.

At least they would represent the majority of the people, unlike the ones in Obambi’s fashion show.  Pathetic!

Knowing what little we do about Obama’s past, I would think he would rather have a gay fashion show.

This argument is pointless.  Obama is the president of everyone and the Obama Store has something for everyone.  Those who want and can afford (contribute) a $15 T-shirt can buy one from the Obama Store.  Those who want and can afford a designer item and can afford to pay (contribute) a $95 scarf, then fantastic! That’s what America is about…..something for everyone at every level.

I wonder if The First Lady wore her Potato Sack she was jumping around the White House in a few days ago to this event? It would be an improvement to what she usually wears.
