WATCH: Rob Zombie Directs Terrifyingly Creepy Commercial For Woolite
Detergent ads are pretty predictable. They usually involve a boy sliding on a field during a soccer game, streaking his white jersey with green grass stains. Much to his mom’s surprise, the stains come out with help from a miraculous laundry soap. But don’t expect for those generic commercials to be all you see anymore. Woolite has just released a new ad titled “Torture”, helmed by none other than horror film director/metal band frontman Rob Zombie.
The commercial is part of Woolite’s campaign to revamp their dated image. Inspired by focus group participants who described laundry machines as torture chambers for clothes, the ad involves masked giants stretching, shrinking, and fading clothing on different torture devices outside an abandoned house. It ends with a voice whispering “save them” as the camera cuts to a stack of brightly-colored sweaters sitting atop a washing machine.
There are two versions of the commercial — a scarier viral version and a less terrifying one made for TV. The budget for the project was $15,000. Zombie (known for slashers like House of 1,000 Corpses and Halloween II) claims neither of the clips are very scary, but are instead “more like a Tim Burton” piece. We would beg to differ — everything from the muted tones to the eerie music screams horror flick.
