Rodarte Is Making At Least One Hat For The Hunger Games
How do we know that The Hunger Games movie is going to be full of fashion? Because it’s official fashion Tumblr Capitol Couture keeps dropping hints that just about every major avant garde fashion house in the world is donating its talents to the film’s costume efforts — including Rodarte.
Capitol Couture posted a photo of a wool knit hat that Kate and Laura Mulleavy have created for the film, but of course since it’s Rodarte it’s not your average beanie — the knit is so loose you can see through the cream, burgundy and black threads that compose it right down to the tulle that supports its shape, and got a pretty wide brim for a hat made of wool. Or for any hat, for that matter.
Apparently — and fittingly — the hat will adorn the head of a Capitol citizen when she (or maybe he) attends the Opening Ceremonies of the 74th annual games, but it’s such a special hat that we can’t imagine
We knew that the film would have some serious fashion cred when it got its own line of nail polish, and when it was annouced that Effie Trinket, who plays the sort of caretaker of main character Katniss Everdeen, would be wearing a little Alexander McQueen here and there, we sort of started to salivate over the fashion credits. And now hats by Rodarte? What’s next, custom riding jodphurs for the Capitol police force designed by Rick Owens? Is Peeta’s interview suit being tailored by Yohji Yamamoto? Is Walter van Bierendonck making President Snow’s ascots?
We don’t know. But we kinda hope so.
