Kate Middleton And Prince William Have Set A Date!
Kate Middleton and Prince William’s royal wedding will take place on Friday, Aprtil 29th at Westminster Abbey which, at the risk of being redundant, we’ll point out is no small venue. (The total seating fits 2,200 people.) So who is paying for (and organizing) the big event?
According to the Guardian, the Middleton will split the cost of the wedding with the royal family which, also at the risk of being redundant, kind of feels like a bum deal for the Middletons. While they’ve certainly got cash, their net worth doesn’t really compare to the royal family’s coffers which have been estimated at anywhere from $420 million to $600 million. Then again, their daughter is marrying the Prince of England, so, you know. But while the Today Show put the cost of the wedding at $40 million, a senior official told The Guardian “the couple and the royal family were acutely aware of the national economic situation and were keen to have a ceremonial wedding that was not especially lavish.” Fingers crossed, right Mr. Middleton?
Luckily for the Middletons, all security coverage will be paid for by the government — and luckily for our friends across the pond, the Friday of the wedding has been declared a bank holiday. But there are a few individuals who aren’t celebrating the royal nuptials. In a repeat of the brouhaha surrounding Chelsea Clinton’s wedding this summer, some British brides are freaking out that Middleton stole their wedding day.
