Should Florida Pass A Law Against Saggy Pants?

Despite what Levi’s and Conan want you to think, saggy pants are still a thing! Who knew? Not us! But the Florida state legislature apparently did, and they’re trying to get the offending legwear banned.

A bill that is currently up in both the State Senate and House would make it illegal for teens (boys and girls) to don saggy pants. The issue that State Senator Gary Siplin and others appear to have is that said saggy pants show off the owner’s underwear. And visible underwear has no place in our nation’s schools, right? One Florida high school even has the following sign posted: “Heads up, Pants up, Grades up.” HA.

If the bill becomes a law, all sorts of consequences will be put into place, “from a verbal warning to a three day in-school suspension and a 30-day suspension from extracurricular activities like football or theatre.” While we imagine rebellious, undies-flashing teens are so not into this, one straight-laced senior named Mike Davis is all about it: “People think it’s a sense of fashion. It’s not the fashion you need in life.” We wonder what he thinks about Subs.

The official Styleite response comes courtesy of Cher Horowitz:

“So okay, I don’t want to be a traitor to my generation and all, but I don’t get how guys dress today. I mean, come on, it looks like they just fell out of bed and put on some baggy pants and take their greasy hair — ew — and cover it up with a backwards cap and like, we’re expected to swoon? I don’t think so!”

Though we agree with her sage words, we’re not necessarily pro this saggy pants ban. Freedom of expression! And so forth! Now tell us what you think.

As much as I don’t like this look – it’s really juvenile on anyone over the age of 20 or 21 – I’m not sure if it’s even constitutional to ban this!

I hate the look, but making it illegal will only make it “cooler”. Ooooh, what a rebel!

What most upsets me (I live next to TWO high schools in NYC so I see this all the time) is that the only boys who do this have the flattest, saggiest Jell-O butts. Get some hotties with bubble butts & I’m all for it! Unfortunately, the ones doing it are not the athletic types.

Don’t worry about Florida being Constitutional, they are Republican and the Constitution is just another piece of towlet paper to the Republicants and their sycophants.

I hate the look. Side comment about a related article on the site (that has comments closed) : http://www.styleite.com/media/subs-andrew-lewis/

that’s not a new invention, I’m almost 40 and when I was a teen some of the boys I knew (skaters, etc) wore their pants low and wore something they referred to as a “rig”….a belt up high with short shoestrings tied to the belt and belt loops….to do the exact same thing.

MIAMI (AFP) – A Florida judge has deemed unconstitutional a law banning baggy pants that show off the wearer’s underwear, local media reported Tuesday.

I guess these guys don’t know that wearing their pants below their behinds was started by homosexuals in prison to advertise their desire to have sex from behind with other male inmates.  Maybe these guys are advertising the same thing.
Regardless this is not appropriate in public places.
I was in Wal Mart a few minutes ago and a young guy had his pants much further down than your illustrations, they were as low as his mid thighs.
I belive if Wal Mart is not going to stop these guys from coming in the store we should start a boycot of Wal Mart util they do.
