Meet The So-Cal Punk Twins Who Just Scored A Saint Laurent Campaign
Poor old Hedi Slimane had a lot of trouble convincing critics he still rolls with the ways of hip young folk when he paraded his troupes of Chateau Marmont gypsys and their malnourished male counterparts down the runways in January. He wasn’t cut any more slack when he released Saint Laurent’s women’s campaign, fronted by a strung-out looking Cara Delevingne and a dress that cost $68,000.
But Slimane’s not going to let a few unfavorable comments get in the way of his grunge revival – or of his fast-brewing bromance. The designer’s latest obsession is a set of twins from Southern California who are also known as The Garden, a relatively obscure skater punk band Slimane discovered last year before shipping Wyatt and Fletcher Shears to the Grand Palais to walk his menswear debut for Saint Laurent.
Slimane has always been drawn to casting young indie musicians, but these three have become particularly cozy. A month later he visited them at their So-Cal home, where they all smoked ciggies, put on lipstick and took a few photos. Now they’re splitting the starring role in his Fall 2013 men’s ads. The campaign, which consists of a series of Slimane-lensed portaits alternated with a grainy sketch of Fletcher’s face, is backed by a track from the boys’ band. Wyatt and Fletcher, in turn, alternate between sharp Saint Laurent suits and heavily embellished leather.
