PHOTOS: Vintage Vogue Covers Created By Salvador Dali

File this thing under things that would not happen today: From the 1930s to the 1970s, legendary artist Salvador Dali created a series of covers for various editions of Vogue, and most of them looked like he pulled them straight from his eerie, Dada canvases.

There’s the one from 1939 in which two women run around the desert with bouquets of flowers where their heads should be, and then the one from 1946 that you can fold in half to create a face.

Would Damien Hirst or George Condos (or Richard Prince, as Julia suggested) ever be allowed to contribute a cover for the magazine? Probably not. But it’s nice to think about what those covers might look like they were. Until that happens, take a look at Dali’s old covers and tell us what you think.
