SATC News Of The Day: Carrie Diaries Details, Patricia Field On Bargains
As you’ve probably heard, the CW has signed on for a Sex And The City prequel called The Carrie Diaries. The show will follow the teenage Carrie Bradshaw, to be played by AnnaSophia Robb. And just like its predecessor, it sounds like it’s going to hit the fashion scene in a big way.
Fashionista spoke with Robb about playing Carrie and her hopes that the show just as big as SATC:
I’m really excited. It’s a bit nerve wracking but I think it will be a great show. We have a great cast and great writers and the fashion’s going to be amazing but it will definitely have a different flavor than the original Sex and the City because it’s for a younger audience. But I really hope to make Carrie Diaries the Sex and the City of my generation.
Relatedly, WWD talked to Patricia Field, SATC’s former costume designer, about the impact the show had on the fashion world, and she told a funny anecdote about setting a trend with bargain basement shoes:
When I found the [Extreme platform-style] gladiator sandal from Dior, I had never seen a shoe like that before, and I put it on Sarah Jessica Parker for the movie “Sex And the City.” It had all my ingredients: strong, sexy, statement. I bought the shoe for myself, and six months later I took my own pair and showed them to [Parker]. Then we looked all over for them because it was a late holiday item. Now we were doing this movie and it was July or something. We had to go to a discount mall upstate to find them, and we bought them all. That started the whole gladiator trend, and it is still going. I still wear the originals.
Thanks for totally validating our love of bargain hunting, Patricia!
