CONFIRMED: Sex And The City Prequel Series To Air On The CW

Attention all Sex and the City devotees: the CW will be developing The Carrie Diaries, a SATC prequel series about high school-aged Carrie Bradshaw.

This makes a whole lot of sense. We can’t imagine a teen drama living on HBO, and the CW specializes in the genre. (The network allegedly bought the project right there in the pitch room.) Furthermore, color us unsurprised that the project will be helmed by OC/Gossip Girl mastermind Josh Schwartz. Candace Bushell will be an executive producer of the show based on her novel of the same name, and the adaptation will be penned by former SATC/current Gossip Girl scribe Amy Harris. Despite earlier rumorsSarah Jessica Parker and SATC creator Darren Star are not involved for now.

Egads, this is going to be a monstrosity. The second movie was pretty terrible. How will they stretch remaining material into something salacious enough to entertain fans of the CW?

Remember the spinoff of Gossip Girl?  I don’t think the pilot even made it on the air. It seems to me that when you know how the characters end up it makes it more difficult to invest time in a prequel.  Also, a large part of the show is based on the fashion and we know that Carrie was fashion challenged before she became the Fashionista we all know and love.  Good luck to them I think they are going to need it.

Please do not destroy Candace Bushnell like you did Von Ziegesar’s Gossip Girl.  Seriously, no one could follow from episode to episode.  Hopefully they keep it in sitcom format.
