Simon Doonan Has Advice For Ryan Lochte, Thinks Strip Billiards Sounds Fun
Pier 57 along the West Side Highway was transformed into a really (and we mean really) long runway for Prabal Gurung‘s spring 2013 show. As we waited in the heat for the show to start, we chatted up Simon Doonan, and picked his brain on our current flavors of the month: Ryan Lochte and Prince Harry.
As you have all read by now, the Olympian is planning a fashion line and launching it sometime next year. While we can’t wait to see what Lochte has up his sleeves, Doonan has some sage advice for him:
“If I was him, I would keep it simple and do some licensing stuff. Actually embarking on building and sustaining is probably infinitely more complex than he realizes. So maybe he’ll figure that out along the way.”
Speaking of dudes, Doonan is totally cool with Prince Harry’s naked photos from his trip to Las Vegas:
“Oh, bless him. I think playing strip billiards — that’s the kind of thing you do when you’re that age. To me, it doesn’t seem like that big a deal. It makes British people love him even more because of it. It’s not that big a deal! I mean, young guy takes his clothes off, plays billiards, and gets drunk? I mean, who cares? Aren’t there bigger issues going on in the world? It makes him seem more human, and we Brits love him.”
Then the lights went out, and model (and House of Style host!) Joan Smalls opened Gurung’s show in a white embellished blazer, sheer top, satin-y trousers, and fierce heels.
