Sofia Coppola Got Married In Custom (Lavender!) Azzedine Alaïa
Sofia Coppola got married yesterday, and — in true Sofia style — her wedding dress totally ruled.
Azzedine Alaïa designed Coppola’s gorgeous and gauzy lavender print dress. We wish we had a full-length photo, but the gown looks perfectly fitted. Coppola wore her hair down and wavy, and topped off her look with a red lip. New husband (and Phoenix frontman) Thomas Mars looked dapper in a navy suit, while Sofia’s dad Francis Ford Coppola reportedly wore a white linen suit and pink shirt. We approve of all these sartorial choices! (So would Cher Horowitz. Anna Wintour? Not so much.)
The pair wed at the Coppola’s family villa in Bernalda, Italy. The intimate ceremony went down at Palazzo Margherita, and the 80-person guest list included George Lucas and Johnny Depp. They dined on “cheeses, figs, salads, pasta, fish and pork, washed down with wine from the family’s farm.” Also, the cake was vanilla with chantilly cream. YUM.
Mayor Leonardo Chiruzzi, who performed the ceremony, was pleased the couple chose Bernalda as their wedding locale: “If they wanted to do a Hollywood wedding, they wouldn’t have done it here. [They] chose to do it here because it’s here — it’s here that is beautiful.”
