Stefano Pilati Isn’t Leaving Yves Saint Laurent
This afternoon, Yves Saint Laurent‘s official Twitter account tweet-smacked all of the blogs that have reported that Stefano Pilati is leaving the French fashion house with this message: “From YSL HQ in Paris… Pilati busy working on the next collection. All the rumors unfounded – he is here to stay.”
The brand tweeted at a selection of blogs that have published stories suggesting that Hedi Slimane would replace Pilati in the coming months. Some of those blogs cited insider information, which we have no choice to believe must have been faulty.
We reported that the rumors were in the ether: many wrote that a track record of low sales and low acclaim had forced the top brass at YSL to consider ending Pilati’s contract. This was seemingly supported by the recent departure of CEO Valerie Hermann. But a recent spike in sales at the brand would seem to dispel any concerns for Pilati’s job security.
There was also the idea floating around that when Slimane took over, he’d hire Carine Roitfeld as a collaborator. Her other option in this version of future events is starting a Paris edition of Harper’s Bazaar, but that idea seems pretty unlikely, too.
At the end of the day, everyone seems to be staying where they are. And what have we learned? Be careful what you post.
