Meet Sally Singer’s Newest Hires for T Magazine
Sally Singer is getting into the swing of things at T Magazine, The New York Times‘ fashion glossy she took over about a month ago. The Times Company issued a press release not too long ago announcing the hire of Michelle Sanders as fashion director and Jacob Brown as features director.
“Michelle is a highly respected leader in the fashion world and has great perspective on style, news and trends in the industry, as well as an editor’s sharp eye,” said Ms. Singer. “Jacob is a talented writer and editor who possesses great acumen for the sophisticated content that T is known for the world over. He will be a tremendous asset in developing the celebrity covers, one of the signature features of T.”
Both are slightly unusual choices — first and foremost because neither one of them worked at Vogue with Singer. We were all thinking that she’d poach one big name or at least a few overripe assistant editors to take with her.
But alas, she did not. Sanders, her new fashion director, has worked in the fashion industry for decades, with various high-powered executive titles at Donna Karan, Miu Miu and Juicy Couture. She was once an accessories editor at Vogue, but with all the non-editorial work she’s done she could hardly be called an editor now.
Brown, on the other hand, has been a golden child at Visionaire, publisher of V and VMAN, for the last three years. He’s also contributed to Paper and The Atlantic.
While she’s got a few of the big positions out of the way, there are still a few more left that need to be filled, and we’re eager to see who Singer snaps up next.
