Tavi Gevinson’s New Website Has A Launch Date!

Tavi Gevinson‘s new teen-focused site, Rookie, isn’t just launching soon. It’s launching on Monday.

Gevinson announced the launch date and url — RookieMag.com — in a post published on her personal blog, The Style Rookie. She also revealed the theme of the first online issue as well as a laundry list of awesome people who have so far contributed.

Each month is a differently themed issue, and September is “Beginnings.” (GET IT? I know you do. You’re a smart one.) Working on a back-to-school theme has made me almost enthusiastic about being back at school. (Almost.) (This is a lie. I don’t know why I pretend to dread school. I love my women’s history class, OK?) Many awesome people have been very nice and written/made things for us, such as: Joss Whedon, Winnie Holzman, Patton Oswalt, Zooey Deschanel, Shannon Woodward, Anna Faris, Kid Sister, Supercute!, Paul Feig, Dan Savage, JD Samson, Jack Black, Alia Shawkat, Fred Armisen, and Miranda July. You should look at what they did on my website because they are FAMOUS and MAGICAL! (They’re also talented and funny and thoughtful and you might what they’ve done in the past so you might like this, too.)

You know who else is talented and funny and thoughtful? Tavi. Ugh, we feel old. Anyway! The site isn’t just a pet project. Since breaking away from Jane Pratt and her parent company Say Media, Tavi has apparently picked up an even bigger backer in the form of New York Media, the parent company of New York Magazine. Women’s Wear Daily reports:

New York Media, the parent company of New York Magazine, will handle advertising for the site. Larry Burstein, publisher of New York, said, “I think the Web site has enormous potential. Tavi is the right person to do this. And so we look at it and we see it as a terrific way to reach that audience. The ad universe for Rookie is basically fashion, retail, beauty, entertainment, electronics — all the areas we’re really strong in at nymag.com, The Cut and Vulture.”

Will you read Rookie?

I am really impressed with Tavi. To say no to a potentially powerful and lucrative deal with Jane Pratt– and then to negotiate a deal with NYMag– well, she’s had good mentors but she’s also brave and insightful herself. Much more than I was at 15! Probably more than I am now. Inspiring.
