WATCH: Taylor Swift Walks Outdoors Barefoot In First Hunger Games Music Video

In case no one had told you this yet, the beginning of The Hunger Games trilogy is a pretty grim scene. So it makes sense that in the first music video for the movie, which is due in theaters on March 23, wouldn’t be the kind of setting in which you’d want to have a toddler’s birthday party.

Nevertheless, singer Taylor Swift is there, singing a sadly optimistic song called Safe and Sound, the first official release from the movie’s soundtrack. Swift wears a white dress and a slightly scared expression (you know, because she’s cold and alone and things are burning around her) while she walks around singing about taking solace in death — or at least that’s what our lyrical interpretation was.

Anyway, the entire time she’s out there, rooting around in leaves to find her Mockingjay pin and whatnot, Joy Williams and John Paul White of The Civil Wars are sitting inside a cozy looking house by a cozy looking fireplace singing backup. And all we could think was, Why are you not outside looking for this girl who’s trying to make peace with her demise? Her soul is too pure to go down like this!

Again, that’s just us. Take a look at the video and let us know what kind of feelings it makes you feel.
