Taylor Swift Isn’t Quite Over The Trauma Of Her Middle School Years

We’ll read almost any profile of the preternaturally sunny Taylor Swift, and the cover story in the February issue of Vogue is full of some delicious T-Swift nuggets.

The piece has Taylor — who we generally only see in princess dresses by the likes of J. Mendel and Reem Acra — visiting fashion’s edgy young stars during Fashion Week. There’s a nod to November cover girl Rooney Mara, who is at Rodarte with Swift and Anna Wintour (“An editor sitting nearby jokes that the two could be the good witch and the wicked witch from The Wizard of Oz.”). There are appearances by Alexander Wang (who delights in her sample sized-figure), Prabal Gurung (to whom she confides that she wants to bake cookies with Karlie Kloss), and Joseph Altuzarra. After all, the cover line does read “a cool new look for America’s sweetheart”.

She asks if her cursing can be off the record, though she doesn’t curse of her own volition – just when she’s quoting the honey badger video. She grew up on a Christmas tree farm (!), and calls her condo in Nashville “very Alice in Wonderland imaginarium”. She wants to be in a movie! She loves hugs! There really is a whole lot to learn in this piece, including how Jake Gyllenhaal broke her heart and will be the subject of her next album.

But our favorite part? This:

“All of my favorite people—people I really trust—none of them were cool in their younger years,” she says. “Because if you know how to be cool in middle school, maybe you have skills you shouldn’t. Maybe you know how to be conniving, like, naturally.” She laughs. “There’s always that seventh-grade girl who looks like she’s 25. And you’re like, How do you do it? How do you do it, Sarah Jaxheimer?” She lets out a comically ear-piercing shriek: “Why is your hair always so shiny?!”

Congratulations, Sarah Jaxheimer! You are now famous! And very easily Googleable!

As for the photos, we continue to love the cover, but the rest of the Mario Testino-lensed spread has us underwhelmed. Check it all out below:

Thanks for proving to me that Taylor Swift can get more annoying than she already is.

She is so annoying!!!! Move on from the past already, my god. I’ve never seen someone so obsessed with her past in middle school?

Bitchy move on Swift’s part to call out a girl who was mean to her in MIDDLE SCHOOL! Kids are mean, then they grow up. Get over it Taylor. You’re 22 years old…that’s even older than college age and you’re stuck on some middle school drama. This girl needs perspective. She lives a charmed life and yet she thinks her shallow problems are everything.

Why do fashion magazines always feel the need to straighten curly hair for their spreads… ugh. I love her hair. In my opinion its why this spread feels so generic.
