Gym Goers Are Pissed About Terry Richardson’s Porny Equinox Ads

Critics (ourselves included) are quick to dismiss Terry Richardson‘s work as gratuitously porny and fairly boring. However, Equinox members aren’t too concerned with the whole trashy-for-the-sake-of-non-existent-shock-value thing. They think the models he used for the gym chain’s ad campaign are too skinny.

Fashionista noticed angry comments on Equinox’s Facebook page. For example:

Why did all of the models have a runway physique? Equinox is promoting health and fitness, so I would like to see some healthy and fit women on their ad campaigns who look like they could actually survive a typical Equinox class.. Can we maybe see a little bit if muscle on the ladies next time around? The Nike ads are great examples of strong, fit women!

And this:

Fit is the new skinny!

While the models are definitely thin, they don’t look sickly. This is certainly not a traditional gym campaign, but that’s the point. (Yeah, we can’t believe we’re defending Richardson either.) Aren’t the bodies of extremely sculpted ladies (and dudes) in fitness ads just as seemingly unattainable? Or are we totally off base? Take a look at the latest round of photos, and tell us what you think:

I understand, and especially for a gym ad…the legs on model in first pic was fine…the third pic, looked like a hunger victim with nice clothing on..so yes, very skinny…poor young kids, think they have to emulate, and for a gym? oh my…happy healthy and eat a donut or two would you…new year…hahaha

Um…okay. I was looking at the people on the website and they need those type of people for the add. The photos here do not compliment ESPNs “best gym in America” statement. The ads are just a mess.
