Tim Gunn: The Project Runway Judges Smoke Crack

Every season, during the reunion special, Project Runway likes to reward us with what we like to call a Tim Gunn highlight reel. Such reels include knee-slapping sound bites and video clips of the always articulate Tim, utilizing his colorful vocabulary and go-to catch phrases.
While we will never have the opportunity to see Gunn in the judges seat — “I’m a believer in the separation of church and state,” he says — we know his opinions are spot on. So in order to quell our interest, Lifetime sat down with Tim for a series of one-on-one interviews in which he shares his thoughts on the judges’ decisions as a part of Project Runway’s new 90-minute format.
StyleList has a sneak preview of what’s to come and obviously, like everything Tim Gunn does, we’re liking what we see.
In the interviews, Tim admits to replaying past seasons of Project Runway on DVD — “I don’t want you to think I’m totally obsessed,” he says, “but I do enjoy reliving it.” — keeping in touch with former cast members, and getting a bit peeved when designers won’t heed his advice. “[This season] there’s a designer who takes it upon his or herself to add comments to my critiques, and I admit I get frustrated by it.” Tim Gunn frustrated? Who would have thought!?
But here’s the best part: he also thinks the judges smoke crack — so much that he intervenes during one set of deliberations. “There’s a reason I call them the crack-smoking judges,” he says, by way of explanation.
Hear more of Tim Gunn’s brilliance when Project Runway Season 8 premieres on Lifetime on July 29th at 9 P.M. EST. In the meantime, watch our favorite highlight reel in Project Runway history below.
