Style Showdown: Can Lil Mama Really Replace Left Eye In TLC?
Tomorrow night TLC, the holy trifecta of ‘90s girl pop that was sadly stolen away from us in 2002, will sort-of reunite to perform at Mixtape Festival at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania.
To fill in for the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, the remain two TLC members, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chili” Thomas, have called upon 23-year-old Lil Mama. The rapper will also portray Lopes in VH1’s upcoming TLC biopic CrazySexyCool: the TLC Story alongside Keke Palmer as Chili and Drew Sidora as T-Boz.
No matter where you stand on the issue of ‘90s pop groups reforming, it’s clear Mama has some big, big neon parachute pants to fill. For the record, our stance on such issues is usually resoundingly positive – but we’re not entirely sold on the idea that the person to blame for “Lip Gloss” has what it takes to pay due respect to the iconic Left Eye.
As a test, we’ve pitted six of the two ladies’ looks against each other in an effort to convince ourselves Mama’s got more than just the correct first initial. Click through the gallery for the Left Eye vs Lil Mama style showdown, and let us know whether you’re planning to jump on the next train to PA or spend the night in your room watching “Waterfalls” on YouTube.
