RUMOR: Will Tom Ford Collaborate With H&M?
In this morning’s tryptophan-induced grogginess, we weren’t exactly sure why we were seeing news of a Tom Ford for H&M collection in our newsfeed, especially so close on the heels of the Lanvin Hearts H&M madness. But it was there, so our hearts started beating faster as we dreamed and fantasized about what such a collaboration might look like, or what it might cost. And then we clicked.
As it turns out, coverage so far has been motivated by an item in a publication called the French Tribune, which is written entirely in (pretty awful) English and which looks nothing like what you think a media outlet called the French Tribune would look like. Nevertheless, it posits that Ford’s stint as a guest editor for the December issue of French Vogue was all a giant metaphor designed to communicate the idea that Ford wants poor young people to be able to afford his clothing. Or something. From the Tribune:
Ford has also decided that he would be coming on the cover of the lifestyle magazine with a 15-year old model.
The name of the model is Daphne Groeneveld and appears in the front centre of the page with her glossy eyes closed.
And while the magazine shows the design, it is for H&M that these will become accessible to youth.
Uh huh. Well. The good people at Fashionising have already called BS on this one, and we don’t blame them — a Ford collection for H&M seems about as likely as the Versace Home Collection going on sale at JC Penney. Still, there’s a small part of us clamoring for there to be a kernel of truth somewhere in this story. We’ve reached out to the editors at the French Tribune to find out where they got their information, but in the meantime, do you think Tom Ford for H&M will ever see the light of day?
