You’ll Never Guess How Many Shoes Zappos’ CEO Owns

By virtue of being literally surrounded by shoes all day, we kinda think that Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh has the coolest job in the world. And you’d think, with the vast number of kicks that come into and go out of his warehouses all the time, he could easily support a fairly unhealthy sneakerhead habit.

But you’d be wrong. Hsieh admitted Tuesday during a session at the Web 2.0 conference that he only owns three pairs of shoes (shoes not counting flip flops, of course). Still, the man could own a thousand pairs of flip flops and we’d still be a little upset — what’s the point in being one of the world’s biggest footwear retailers and not taking advantage of all that power?

No, seriously. A big part of the reason that Zappos is so successful is because it has almost every shoe in the world in stock, so you can find everything from an overpriced Bruno Magli monkstrap to a standard Converse low-top sneaker in a matter of a few points and clicks. Hsieh could have any shoe he wanted delivered right to his desk and pay no shipping whatsoever.

Yet alas, he does not. And we guess maybe, so long as we’re getting free shipping, too, we shouldn’t complain and let him do whatever he wants with his money.
